In-Town Hiking

Even if you're just heading out your front door to put in a few miles, you still need to have the right equipment, and make sure you have safety considerations covered. You can find our recommendations for merchants who can provide you with any items your lacking below the checklist.

Required Items:

Tell someone where you are going, and when you plan to return.
Plenty of Water. Consider a hydration system!
Good shoes or boots. Walking Shoes, "Street" Hikers, or Hiking Boots will do. See our recommendations.
A loud whistle. You can blow this to get help if you fall and cannot move.

Strongly Recommended Items:

Sunglasses with 100% UV protection.
A cellular phone (much more effective than the whistle!)
Sunscreen. If you plan to be in the Sun for more than 15 minutes, you'll need it.
