The Rocky Mountains. Anasazi cliff dwellings. The Great Sand Dunes. The Royal Gorge. Colorado has so many hiking opportunities that it's probably not possible to try them all in a lifetime. Have you hiked or climbed up all 54 "Fourteeners?" Yes, Colorado boasts 54 peaks which rise more than 14,000 feet above sea level.We've provided links to some great Colorado hiking resources, as well as a list of guide books that can help you find your way through this great state.

- Hiking Colorado
A hiking site with over 30 trail reports, all from one person! Wonderful trip reports and personal photos makes this a great resource. It also includes a hike difficulty calculator.
- Colorado Mountain Club.
This hiking and mountaineering club offers organized hikes, snowshoe outings, and rock climbing expeditions.
- Colorado Hiking
This site covers hiking near Fort Collins, Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Walsenburg. You'll find many hikes described with maps, directions, general information, photos, hike length, difficulty ratings and global positioning system (GPS) data.
- American Hiker: Colorado
This site provides several trail descriptions divided by region within the state. Each description includes directions to the trailhead, trail details (distance, difficulty, elevation change, etc.), and local contact information.
- Rocky Mountains News: Hiking Resources
One of Colorado's largest newspapers provides an archive of articles on hiking. These include equipment and preparations guides, as well as details on specific hiking areas.

- Happy Hikers Hiking Club - Denver
A no-fee membership club for adults who want to hike in the Denver area. Organized hikes are offered every weekend.
- Hiking in Dinosaur National Monument
There are several easy self-guided hikes in this visit to North America's truly ancient past.
- Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park has 355 miles of hiking trails. These range from flat lakeside strolls to quite steep peak climbs.
- Hiking in Hovenweep National Monument
Visitors to Hovenweep can enjoy short hikes, natural quiet, and some of the finest examples of ancestral Puebloan architecture in the Southwest.
- Hiking in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
A deep, sheer canyon, this wild gorge provides breath-taking vistas, and contains the tallest cliff in Colorado (the "Painted Wall" stands 2250 feet high). Rim trails range in difficulty from easy to strenuous, and extremely difficult trails exist inside the canyon, but require a permit.
- Hiking in Mesa Verde National Park
Mesa Verde is the largest collection of ancestral Puebloan cliff dwelling communities in North America. Several well-established trails, most of which are easy to moderate, take you right to many of the large ruins.
